Sharing Some Fun Projects

I wanted to share these projects with you- maybe you can store the idea away until next holiday season! ☺ Some fun things we did w/ the kids class over the holidays- we made these foam magnet frames and the kids had fun embellishing them and framing their own artwork! Made great gifts too!

Kid's Project

My girls (ages 4 and 18 mos) made these frames in the craft room on our vacation awhile back, and I wanted to share the idea b/c I think it's fun and easy and turns out to be a great decoration or gift!

They used plain wood (some were varnished others were not) frames that you can pick up for around $1 a piece. They then used "tacky glue" (they poured some out on paper plates and let the smaller kids use paintbrushes to apply the glue!) to attach the clear flat-backed stones (the kind you buy in the mesh bags at the craft stores) all around the frame. It took awhile to dry but it dries clear and any excess glue can be washed away. The final results are so sparkly and pretty and I love that the craft ladies took pictures of the kids from that day for us to put in the frames!

I definately think we'll be doing this project again at home and maybe even for our next parent/child scrapbooking night too! (:

Kid's Project Idea

My 4yo daughter loves anything crafty and this was a fun project for her-- I let her use some day-old cold coffee (tea works too!) to "dye" her coloring papers and notebook paper! She didn't soak it too long so it was a light yellow-brown shade but she had fun trying different techniques like tearing the paper and crumpling it up and folding it to see the variations.Happy Crafting!

fast:friday Cinnamon Rollies Recipe

today's fast:friday is a fun little recipe my daughters (ages 16mo and 4yo) & I made up we call

Cinnamon Rollies!

they are:
quick
easy
cheap
fun
fast
&
kid-friendly
what could be better?
oh yeah, and yummy too!

Recipe:
Refrigerated Biscuit Tubes (we used two of those small ones that come in a 4 pack for $1)
Use a Rolling Pin to flatter them out (on a floured surface works best) to make long thin ovals.
Spread (or "smear" depending on how much you want the kids to help you) with butter or margarine
Sprinkle generously with brown sugar and cinnamon-sugar
Roll em up
Place in a greased or sprayed cake pan
Bake per instructions-- about 10 minutes at about 350-degrees, until lightly browned

Enjoy!

Recycled Kid's Project Idea

This is the fun project we'll be making at the next Parent/Child Scrapbooking Class (scheduled for June 18th through Sibley Rec) My 4-year-old daughter loved embellishing the album and using lots of little 3d trinkets on the pages since they are expandable. It's nice to have the "page protectors" too so the items all stay together and neat.

The front and back covers and some of the inside pages are made using recycled chipboard (I have large sheets of this but you can use a cereal box @ home) and the pages are made of plastic sandwich bags, a great way to use them w/o them ending up in a landfill so you can use up what you have and switch to reusable bags like these.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

For breakfast today to celebrate St. Patrick's Day we had gold coins (banana slices w/ yellow sprinkles), green yogurt (lime), and green scrambled eggs (kinda gross-looking I know). Oh, and my mom left a baggie of Lucky Charms so we ate those too (a first for my kiddos!). Here's some pictures...


We are teaching an after-school scrapbooking class today, so I'm off to dig for a bit of green clothing for the girls and I so we don't get PiNcHeD! (: Enjoy your day! --Janelle

We took a vacation a few weeks ago...and while the kids napped I had entirely too much fun using some of this paper (and a sheet of the LOL paper too) and a pack of these "together" rub-ons! (: Oh, and my daughter left out a chunky blue crayon that just had to be used!

I was happy to have a few layouts done "just for fun" this time! (:

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope you have a fun valentine's day! My daughter has her valentine party tomorrow so we made some cute kiddy cards to pass around. I've had these animal papers forever and slowly but surely used them up (as birthday invites, thank you cards...etc) and we're kinda sick of them now so I'm happy to have finally used the last of them!

***we had fun coming up with cute valentine sentiments to go along w/ each animal theme & my daughter got some good name-writing practice in since we made 20 of them! She was a little tired of writing her name by the end of it and said she was glad her name only had 4 letters and not more! (:

Love Letters: Random Cards of Kindness

Shae (my daughter)'s wonderful storyhour group @ our library made cute monkey cards for this great cause: LOVE LETTERS. We made a few at home (I must preface this picture by saying I do not make cards, but I do make an exception for good causes) and here they are.



Please take a minute to visit LOVE LETTERS and make a few cards yourself, they distribute them to children with life-threatening illnesses, and they are a non-profit organization. Read more here. btw...my owl says "whoooo's the best? You Are!" inside. And...umm...that's a calculator that says "You're #1!" in case you can't tell...remember I said I don't do cards!

2nd Parent/Child Scrapbooking Night!

We will be offering our 2nd Parent/Child Scrapbooking Class through the Sibley Recreation Department! Tentative date is Tuesday, March 10th @ 5:30pm...more details in upcoming rec. flyer! This will be a fun night to create a special craft project with your child or grandchild!
This time we will be making Paper-Bag Albums, they are a lot of fun to put together and I've been selling them at my craft shows & teaching how-to classes using the kits I put together for a few years, they have been very popular. I will have kits available in several color themes-- suitable for boys or girls! They hold up to about 20 photos, depending on the size of the pictures. I hope you & your child(ren) will join us! (my daughter is very excited to have another scrapbook night, she had a blast last time and was so proud of her album- as was I!)

PS-- This time, Parents may chose to make an album themselves alongside their children. Just mark "2" on the registration form so I'll have enough kits available!

Class cost: $5.00 per kit. You can sign up via online registration when the new flyer comes out (mid-January) or send the paper registration back to school w/ your child.

Youth Scrapbooking Class

We will again be offering after-school scrapbooking class for grades 3rd-8th through the Sibley Recreation Department!
Winter Flyers will go home with students mid-January so be on the look-out! (: We will be having class three Tuesdays in February from 3:30-4:30 again, check the flyer for more details. Here's a sneak peek at one of the fun projects we'll be making! (Each project will be available in several color choices for the girls to pick from!) We will also be doing another mini-project (I'll post a photo of that one soon, so check back!) & several 12x12 scrapbook layouts, it will be a lot of fun so I hope you sign up!

Odd & Ends
Here are some little cards and gift-tags I made using some left-over rub-on sentiments and papers. Shae and I had made some cards for the Scrapping for Soldiers project (click link below to learn more) and I had a few left-overs...now, I'm not a card-maker at all (I made an exception for the Scrapp'n for Soldiers) so I was proud of myself to get a few mini-cards or gift-cards done for myself. Well, back to the books (scrapbooks!) for now.

Love this NEW product!

Here are some pictures of a completed Scrapbook-in-a-Tin project...

I love the versatility of this product. I had a fun time putting it together (quick & easy, big plus!) and I love the colors and styles, but it's also so great for younger kids and teens!
